Dusk activity around eaves and soffits
Bats emerge in the 30 minutes after sunset. A column of bats leaving from one corner of the house is a confirmed roost entry point.
Black droppings on siding or beneath a soffit
Bat guano is dark, dry, and crumbles between the fingers — unlike mouse droppings, which are firmer and rod-shaped. Piles below a soffit corner are an active sign.
Squeaking or scratching inside the attic at dusk
Bats become audible inside the building envelope right before exit time and right after dawn return — usually a high-pitched chirp, not a scurry.
